Prune, burn infested shoots of mango

LUCKNOW: To protect mango plantations from a common pest affecting mango trees the mango leaf webber, the Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture on Monday issued an advisory notice to mango farmers in Lucknow's mango belt of Malihabad, Mall and Kakori blocks.

According to CISH, the mango leaf webber is a 'serious pest in Malihabad belt'.
In the advisory issued by the Central Institute, director H Ravishankar said that infested shoots should be pruned and burned to reduce pest population.
Soil surrounding the base of the tree must be raked in January, after the last batch of the pests have appeared.
In addition, leaf webs should also be cleared using comb-like leaf web removing device developed by CISH and burning them, apart from spraying quinalphos.
