APEM (PERU) FLOODS USA MARKET AND THEN FALSELY CONGRATULATES THE NATIONAL MANGO BOARD(NMB) FOR "GROWING" SALES...THROUGH "PROMOTIONS" THAT NEVER TOOK PLACE...WHAT A JOKE!...FOR EVERYONE EXCEPT THE PERUVIAN MANGO FARMERS!!!...

Retail promotions continue to favor fruit sales in the U.S.

Peru: Mango consumption grew 126% due to the NMB promotions
According to the latest quarterly report of the National Mango Board (NMB) during the promotions that were carried out, the mango volume marketed in the U.S. retails increased by 126%, regarding last year.

Because the organization has placed more emphasis on mango special announcements with educational nutrition information, increasing in this area went over 200%.

Similarly, the NMB noted that the sampling events in the areas west, south and central of the U.S. had better reactions to promotions, achieving an increase in consumption by up to 465%.

APEM supports the request of the NMB

In that sense, Mario Salazar, president of the Peruvian Association of Mango Producers and Exporters (APEM) said the work done by the NMB in promoting fruit is "more than good".

Also, the executive said that support the request of the National Mango Board (NMB) to increase from $ 0.05 to U.S. $ 0.075 cents per pound of mango, to ensure adequate funding for promotion and research activities in the retails (retailers) in the United States.

"A letter has been sent with the consensus of our associates and we are awaiting the ratification of its request to the U.S. State, we are confident that this measure will serve to further boost mango shipments", said Salazar.

Finally, the specialist (???)  said that expectations for mango export growth to United States, remain intact, despite the threat of crisis, "our roof is still very high, since there are areas to which we are just entering our high quality product".

Data

• The total U.S. investment in the regions was U.S. $ 210.4 thousand to 10.997 stores impacted and 5.064 demonstration events. Among the most highlighted is the west and south region of the U.S. with $ 32.7 thousand and U.S. $ 37.8 thousand, respectively.

• The proposal to increase the fee per pound of NMB was held on July 11, 2011 until today awaits the response from U.S. authorities.

PERU'S MANGO FORECAST FOR 2012 SEASON...FATALLY FLAWED...EXPORTERS WILL FLOOD MARKET ONCE AGAIN...

Peru releases 2011-12 mango forecast

August 30th, 2011

Peru’s Association of Mango Producers and Exporters (APEM) expects volumes to fall to 180,000 metric tons (MT) during the 2011-12 season, website Andina.com.pe reported.

(IMO NOTE: EVEN 180,000,000 MT EQUALS 45 MILLION (4kg) CARTON EQUIVALENTS)

APEM president Mario Salazar told the website the production forecast was a reduction on previous values that fluctated between 200,000-250,000MT, which led to a market oversupply and lower prices.
(IMO NOTE: AGAINST ALL CLAIMS, BARRING AN "EL NIñO PHENOM, THIS WILL BE A BUMPER CROP FOR PERU (HIGH PRODUCTION YEAR ON ALTERNATING CYCLE) PERU WILL PRODUCE MORE FRUIT THAN LAST YEAR.)

“For example, in the last two campaigns we have sent 300 containers of fresh mangoes weekly to the United States, when the market supports a maximum of 180 containers,” Salazar was quoted as saying.

(IMO NOTE: THIS IS 80 CONTAINERS PER WEEK MORE THAN  WHAT BRAZIL IS FORECASTING, AND THEY HAVE THE MARKET ALL TO THEMSELVES BEFORE ECUADOR STEPS IN!!!)

He said the lack of returns for growers meant there was less funding for re-investment, causing malnourishment and underperformance for many farms, the story reported.

(IMO NOTE: THIS IS THE ONLY TRUTH IN THE ARTICLE. ACTUALLY, FARMS ARE IN OVER THEIR HEADS WITH THE BANKS AS WELL!)

“If the climatic conditions that have occured recently continue in this context, then it’s predicted there would be less production in the current 2011-12 campaign.”

(IMO NOTE: NO REASON TO BELIEVE 2012 WILL BE LESS THAN LAST YEAR. FORECAST IS FOR A REPEAT OF "LA NIñA" PHENOM...ONLY HOPE? IS FOR 2009 REPEAT OF "EL NIñO TO REDUCE EXPORTS)

The country’s main mango-producing regions are Piura (October to January), Lambayeque (January and February) and Ancash (March).

The market is broken down into 68% for export and 32% for local consumption.

(IMO NOTE: BEST CASE SCENARIO PER APEM: 68% OF 180,000 MT = 30,600,000 (4kg) CARTONS!)
